Abstract

Religious beliefs, worship, and rituals occupied a large space in the lives of ancient peoples, which left clear effects on their cultural aspects, as it had a great influence on the civilization of ancient nations, and the study of religious ideas and beliefs has great importance in knowing the history and civilization of any nation. Man was in the first place. His command was known as monotheism and that polytheism occurred to him, but with the passage of time polytheism began to infiltrate humanity, and the first people to associate polytheism among the sons of Adam were the people of Noah. Our study in this research included the religious ideas and beliefs prevalent in Iraq before the spread of Christianity, as we find that Iraq has known monotheism since the time of the Prophet Noah - after the ark landed on Mount Judi in Iraq after the flood. However, with the passage of time and the change of peoples, the situation changed with regard to religions. In Iraq, the first civilized people in history, the Sumerians, were idol worshipers, and polytheism was their official religion. In this research, we touched on the location of Iraq and its borders, then we talked about the religious ideas and beliefs prevalent in Iraq before the spread of Christianity, and then to the most important results that the research reached.
