Abstract

There is no doubt that the importance of studying the temporal and spatial variation of crime in Diyala Governorate for the period of time 2007-2017 has a great impact in revealing its trends and places of concentration, which may contribute to developing preventive policies to limit its spread, plan to combat it, and strive to dry up its hotspots in the governorate, as it constitutes a threat to the security of the governorate. The study showed a general trend of decreasing numbers of crimes in Diyala Governorate for the period 2007ـ2017, through testing statistical significance at the level of statistical significance (0.05), as crimes of all types gradually decreased in all districts of the governorate. The numerical development of the crimes committed in Diyala Governorate, which were represented by (self-assault crimes, assault crimes against public and private funds, bribery and forgery crimes, moral crimes, terrorist crimes, women’s crimes, and other crimes “the rest of the types”) for the period 2007-2017 was determined by extracting Calculating the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation (Coefficient of Variance) for the total number of crimes. It was also shown through the spatial distribution of the crime that there was a large discrepancy in its spatial distribution according to the districts, as it was characterized by strong concentration in the districts of Khanaqin and Baqubah. It is noted that the general trend in the development of crimes in Diyala Governorate According to its districts for the period 2007 - 2017, by calculating the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation of the numbers of crimes according to the districts of Diyala Governorate, it becomes clear that the number of crimes is decreasing, as their arithmetic average reached about (7063) crimes annually, and the standard deviation rate decreased to record (5706) and the coefficient of variation (80.8% ). The study concluded that Khanaqin district leads the rest of the governorate’s districts, recording an arithmetic average of its number of crimes of about (2012) crimes annually, and its standard deviation rose to record (2267) and with a coefficient of variation (112.6%) The study concluded that the general trend in the development of the number of crimes in Diyala Governorate for the period 2007-2017 is decreasing, as the values of the linear correlation coefficient (R) and the value of the linear regression coefficient (b) were negative (-), which indicates the existence of an inverse linear correlation between the numbers of crimes and their development in this period of time
