Abstract

This study aims to highlight the role of motivation as a reinforcement tool in learning Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) among students from various academic specializations at the university level. Given the challenges students face in mastering MSA in both written and spoken forms, the research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach. A questionnaire was distributed among a diverse sample of students to measure their motivation levels toward learning Arabic and to identify the factors that influence their motivation. The findings revealed a positive correlation between high levels of motivation and improved performance in learning MSA. Several key factors were identified as significantly impacting student motivation, including career goals, cultural identity, and the role of the instructor. The study emphasizes the importance of adapting teaching methods to be more motivating and of creating educational environments that support interactive learning and the use of modern technologies. The study recommends increasing awareness of the importance of MSA, designing educational programs tailored to students’ needs and specializations, and training teachers to adopt motivational strategies that strengthen students’ connection to their native language and enhance their linguistic proficiency.
