Abstract

In this study, we will examine the external functions in Ibn Jinni’s commentary. External functions are defined as the pragmatic relationships that link the text to its broader context. These functions allow texts to be analyzed as dynamic, interactive entities subject to external influences. They include elements such as the topic (mubtada’), tail (dhayl), and vocative (munada’), which are key components used to define communicative relationships between texts and their recipients, while taking into account historical, cultural, and social dimensions. This research consists of an introduction, three main sections—the subject, the appendix, and the vocative—and a conclusion.
