Abstract

This research deals with the study of the phenomenon of climate change, which has become clearly evident in recent times. The climate of Iraq has been exposed to changes just as the climate of the Earth has changed, and this change appears clearly in the climatic elements Represented by temperature, relative humidity, evaporation and rain. Rain is the most important climate element that we must pay special attention to because it constitutes a sensitive element in natural, human and economic life. The study focused on (the impact of climate change on rainfall patterns in Mosul Governorate). By presenting the causes of climate change and indicators of climate change for Mosul Governorate for the period (1964-2023), a statistical analysis was conducted on the annual rainfall rate to identify the general trend and annual change. The study concluded that there is spatial and temporal variation. It is clear in the study area in the amount of rainfall, its density, direction and timing. The study also showed the variability of rainfall, as the seasonal average of rainfall increased during the first period extending from (1964-1984), while the seasonal average of rainfall decreased in the second period extending from (1984-2003). This is due to the climate changes that the region has experienced, which have contributed to a decline in rainfall rates, followed by a return to an increase in the recent period extending from (2004-2023). The study also concluded that there is a clear general trend towards a decrease in the amount of rainfall in all months of the year.
