Abstract

Al-Asmaʿi’s Kitāb Khalq al-Insān (The Book of Human Creation) is considered the first extant work in the Arabic heritage dedicated to the subject of human creation. It is also the earliest compilation that independently addressed the topics of pregnancy, childbirth, and the newbornwithin a linguistic framework. Al-Asmaʿi was thus a pioneer in this field of authorship, laying the foundations upon which subsequent works on human creation were based. The influence of his style remained evident in later writings, as those who authored after him could not completely depart from his linguistic approach.
