The SpatiaI Distribution of Traffic Accidents in AI-KhaIis District for the Year 2023-2022

Abstract

This research aims to study and analyze traffic accidents on the main roads in Al-Khalis District during the period (2022–2023), including collisions, run-overs, rollovers, and other types of traffic incidents. It also examines the human and material losses resulting from these accidents. The research further seeks to understand the geographical distribution of these accidents across the main roads of Al-Khalis, highlighting their spatial and temporal variations. Moreover, it aims to identify the causes of these accidents and contribute to reducing their occurrence by proposing practical solutions and treatments. According to data obtained from the Diyala Traffic Directorate for the period (2022–2023), a total of approximately 148 traffic accidents were recorded on the main roads, resulting in 375 injuries and 37 deaths. The year 2022 witnessed the highest number of recorded accidents, with 76 accidents, 28 deaths, and 187 injuries. In comparison, the year 2023 recorded about 72 traffic accidents, 9 deaths, and 188 injuries.
