Abstract

Poverty is a problem socio-political and economic issue with serious social, psychological, and humanitarian consequences for the population. This topic holds a vital place in geographical research due to the diverse problems it creates across political, economic, educational, and demographic dimensions at both local and international levels, affecting both citizens and governments. Poverty isn't a phenomenon that can be fought in a single generation; it has deep-seated roots in every society and is a source of many problems faced by a country's population. There's a strong link between poverty and security. As poverty rates rise, so do security concerns and the incidence of illegal and security-related violations in most countries. Many lawbreaking activities and various crimes stem from an individual's economic hardship, which pushes them to act illegally. The reasons for the spread of poverty can vary, but political factors are often a primary cause, especially regarding wealth distribution, job creation, weak development projects, and a failure to activate the private and public sectors' roles in addressing this issue. Poverty negatively impacts security and public safety, and can undermine the rule of law. It can sometimes lead to political instability, national disunity, and an increase in organized crimes like terrorism, human and organ trafficking, and the spread of drugs. Illiteracy, ignorance, and migration are other factors that all negatively affect security and the enforcement of law. Therefore, all stakeholders must play their part, as this phenomenon affects a state's strength in developing its population's role in supporting the country's security, economy, and politics for sustainable security.
