Abstract

This research studies one of the important poems, namely "The Palm Tree's Anthem" by the Iraqi poet Kadhim al-Hajjaj, based on an argumentative approach that takes some rhetorical devices of an entertaining nature as its starting point, as it represents the gap that the research seeks to fill. Accordingly, the research aimed at studying Al-Hajjaj’s poem within new contexts based on the mechanisms of entertainment and persuasion from a philosophical perspective that begins with the aesthetic and entertaining and reaches the argumentative and persuasive level. Studying the text is an attempt to bring the attention to a change in the intellectual and emotional stance of the recipient. Based on these data, the research concluded that the devices used in this poem, in addition to being of an entertaining nature. The aesthetic qualities of the poem are evident in the argumentative connections within its internal structure. These connections contribute to a kind of dialogical-argumentative harmony between the poem's sections, combining enjoyment and persuasion through the presence of presumed associative and causal relationships linking all parts of the text, from the title through the vocabulary, to the phrases and styles based on argument and conclusion. These arguments and conclusions may be explicitly or implicitly are understood and revealed in the reader's mind.
