Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the variation in literacy in Dhi Qar Governorate in 2023 by examining the geographical distribution of literacy centers, estimating achievement rates in administrative units, and identifying differences in these rates between urban and rural areas. The descriptive-analytical approach was adopted, utilizing statistical methods such as percentages and distribution maps using a Geographic Information System (GIS). The results showed a clear disparity in literacy rates among the administrative units. It became evident that families' living and economic conditions play a significant role in children's continued education, as limited income and high school costs contribute to a higher likelihood of dropping out. The study also revealed a clear disparity in the distribution of primary schools among the administrative units, which is linked to population density and prevailing economic and social conditions. The results further revealed higher literacy rates in some administrative units, reflecting variations in educational attainment among the population due to differing economic and social circumstances and the level of educational services provided
