Abstract

The elegy of Duraid ibn al-Simmah for his brother Abdullah is one of the poems that has attracted the attention of critics and researchers, both past and present, due to its dynamic structure and the strategic deployment of linguistic discourse. The poem transcends historical eras, prompting readers to reinterpret its content anew with each reading. Its enduring artistic qualities contribute to its lasting significance throughout history. This study applies a core concept of pragmatic analysis: pragmatic deixis, which includes personal, spatial, and temporal deixis. Each category functions within a specific analytical framework. Personal deixis examines the use of pronouns and their role within the discourse. Spatial deixis investigates the spatial references used in the poem. Temporal deixis focuses on two main temporal structures: cosmic time and grammatical time
