The Multiplicity of Grammatical Interpretations in Ibn Kamal Pasha’s Exegesis Surat al-Furqan as a Case Study

Abstract

The study aims to examine the multiplicity of grammatical parsing aspects in the Qurʾanic exegesis of Ibn Kamal Pasha, with Sūrat al-Furqān selected as a model for analysis. The research adopts an analytical approach and seeks to identify Ibn Kamal Pasha’s views, comparing them with those of earlier exegetes and grammarians, as well as with scholars who were influenced by his work. The study also seeks to clarify the concept of grammatical parsing aspects. These aspects, and the resulting grammatical interpretations, led exegetes and grammarians to differ in their syntactic analyses of certain Qurʾanic verses. Such differences reflect the richness and breadth of linguistic usage in the Holy Qurʾān and allow scholars of the Arabic language to interpret this usage in accordance with their linguistic competence and understanding of the text.
