Abstract

This research examines the use of simile and metaphor in the poetry of Khalid Al-Bahrizi, a poet of the Iraqi 1970s generation whose work is characterized by its richness and artistic and intellectual brilliance. The research attempts to explore the impact of simile and metaphor within his texts, employing a descriptive-analytical approach to uncover the figurative language and to discern the meanings and connotations emanating from these artistic formations. Through these forms, the poet reflects the psychological, social, and economic structures of his work, aiming to expose and reveal reality to the reader in order to raise awareness, broaden their understanding, and shape their consciousness according to the creator's worldview. In this, he does not stray from the realist school, which links form and content to establish a vision that does not transcend reality, as is the case in the idealist school, but rather springs from the heart of reality in an attempt to rectify it and repair its damage. This is due to the poet's skill and mastery of his artistic tools, particularly the figurative language (simile and metaphor), which shaped the visions, ideas, and concepts that the creator embodied in his texts.
