Abstract

This study aims to reveal the techniques through which the feminine self is constructed and to examine the transformations of poetic discourse in the work of the poet Bushra Al-Bustani, through an analytical approach that focuses on the semantic and linguistic structures of the poetic text. The study is based on the hypothesis that the feminine self in Al-Bustani’s poetry is not presented as a stereotypical image or a transient theme, but rather is formed within the poetic discourse itself as a conscious self, linguistically produced through the mechanisms of poetic voice and linguistic transformation. The study adopts a descriptive–analytical methodology based on a semantic–stylistic approach, while also drawing on interpretive perspectives. It analyzes selected poetic texts from the collection Wear Your Green Shawl (Albisī Shālak al-Akhdar), with the aim of examining the mechanisms of constructing the poetic “I” and the ways in which linguistic functions are elevated to the level of reflection and contemplation. The study also addresses manifestations of syntactic construction and transformation within poetic discourse, as well as the deconstruction of the poetic sentence, semantic and syntactic deviation, and the condensation of the poetic voice as it shifts toward a contemplative mode. Such processes contribute to the reconfiguration of the relationship between the self and its surrounding world within the poetic text. The study concludes that the poetic production of Bushra Al-Bustani represents a vivid model of contemporary poetic discourse in which the feminine self is reconstructed as an integrated aesthetic and epistemological structure. The transformations of poetic discourse constitute the fundamental axis in the production of this self, lending the poetic experience a distinctive character within the field of modern poetry
