Abstract

This research examines rhetorical argumentation in the panegyrics of the Banu Abbad, considering it an effective mechanism in constructing and directing poetic discourse towards persuasion and influence on the recipient. In the poetry of the Taifa period, panegyric was not merely an expression of admiration for the praised figure or a recounting of their virtues; rather, it constituted a rhetorical discourse in which linguistic, figurative, and argumentative means combined to establish the praised figure's worthiness of leadership, merit, and status. The research aims to uncover the most prominent argumentative strategies employed by the Banu Abbad poets in constructing their panegyrics and to demonstrate the effectiveness of rhetorical devices in achieving the aims of panegyric discourse
