Abstract

The current research aims to identify: 1. The level of mental attractiveness among university students. 2. The significance of differences in the level of mental attractiveness according to the variables of gender (male–female) and specialization (scientific–humanities). To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher developed a Mental Attractiveness Scale based on Byrne’s Theory (1971). The face validity of the research instrument was verified, and the reliability of the scale was established. The reliability coefficient of the Mental Attractiveness Scale reached (0.82) using the test–retest method and (0.83) using Cronbach’s Alpha method. The statistical procedures employed included the one-sample t-test, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient, and the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The study yielded the following results: 1. University students possess a level of mental attractiveness. 2. There is a statistically significant difference in mental attractiveness according to gender (male–female) in favor of males, while no statistically significant difference was found according to specialization (scientific–humanities). In light of these findings, the researcher presented a number of recommendations and suggestions for future studies.
