Abstract

The Philippines witnessed significant political events between 1986 and 1989, which left their mark on the internal political landscape at the time. The year 1986 began with a military coup led by Arturo Tolentino, who attempted to undermine the Aquino government. Furthermore, Anrel challenged the government, as he aspired to seize power. In addition, the communist insurgency plagued the government. On the other hand, the government successfully held legislative and local elections, which strengthened democracy in the Philippines. In 1989, a military coup nearly succeeded in overthrowing the Philippine government, but it failed completely due to a lack of public support
