Smart Thinking Among University Students

Abstract

The current research aims to identify "smart thinking" among university students and to determine the statistical significance of differences in smart thinking based on the gender variable (males and females). To achieve these objectives, the researcher developed a smart thinking scale based on Art Markman’s theory (2012). The scale consists of 18 items distributed across three domains: developing smart habits, acquiring high-quality knowledge, and applying knowledge effectively. The scale comprises six items per domain. Its face validity was verified by presenting it to a panel of specialists in educational sciences, psychology, and measurement and evaluation, while construct validity was established through correlational analysis (internal consistency). Reliability was assessed using two methods: test-retest, yielding a coefficient of 0.89, and Cronbach’s alpha, yielding a coefficient of 0.85. The study sample consisted of 400 participants. The study sample consisted of male and female university students, selected using a stratified random sampling method with equal allocation. Statistical analysis was conducted using the SPSS software package, leading to the following results: university students possess intelligent thinking skills. Based on these findings, the researcher formulated a set of recommendations and suggestions.
