Abstract

Individual health is a fundamental element in human societies, serving as a vital factor in ensuring that individuals remain active participants capable of effectively engaging in economic and social activities. This research aims to assess the state of health services in the city of Al-Mansouriya—in terms of both quantity and quality relative to the population—and to identify the sector's current status and primary challenges. The study evaluates the performance of health centers in the area and compares it against Iraqi standards. The research focuses on analyzing the reality of health services in Al-Mansouriya regarding quantity and quality, evaluating their efficiency against Iraqi health standards, and investigating the problems facing the health sector. The core issue lies in the disparities regarding service efficiency across several dimensions, such as geographical distribution, staff competence, equipment, and the capacity of health institutions. The researcher employed descriptive and analytical methods, supplemented by fieldwork and the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze the spatial distribution of health services. Comparisons were also made between the numbers of physicians, health personnel, and the population against established standards. The results revealed a shortage of hospitals and significant strain on the city's single health center; conversely, dental and pharmaceutical services were found to be more adequate, with a sufficient number of health professionals available. The researcher recommended expediting the construction of the Al-Mansouriya hospital and upgrading the existing health center and medical staff. Additionally, the study advocated for supporting health-related and planning studies, as well as raising public health awareness to improve service quality and alleviate pressure on health institutions.
