Abstract

This study—titled "The Rhetorical Orientation of Terms Denoting Human Attributes in *Mutakhayyar al-Alfāẓ* by Aḥmad ibn Fāris: A Rhetorical-Lexicographical Perspective"—aims to uncover the rhetorical and lexicographical criteria Ibn Fāris employed in selecting terms that describe human beings and their states. The research problem stems from the need to elucidate how a chosen term interacts with the context of human attributes (both physical and psychological) and to highlight the stylistic characteristics that distinguish Ibn Fāris’s rhetorical thought in this work. To achieve the study's objectives, a descriptive-analytical approach was adopted; this involved identifying terms denoting human attributes, classifying them, and subsequently analyzing them rhetorically and semantically across the three traditional levels of Arabic rhetoric: *al-Bayān* (imagery and clarity), *al-Ma‘ānī* (syntax and meaning), and *al-Badī‘* (stylistic embellishment).
