Abstract

The use of metaphor in the narratives and sayings of Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) can be considered an advanced rhetorical device that combines suggestion, persuasion, and spiritual and intellectual depth. This research aims to define the concept of metaphor in language and terminology and to review its rhetorical functions in conveying abstract and complex meanings in an indirect manner. The research adopted a descriptive analytical approach, analyzing the texts of Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) and comparing the opinions of ancient and modern rhetoricians. The results showed that metaphor is a highly suggestive means that goes beyond direct expression and achieves a comprehensive psychological and intellectual effect, with the skillful use of the three types: about a quality, about a described thing, and about a relationship. The study confirms that metaphor is not merely a verbal embellishment, but rather an intellectual, educational, and creative tool that deepens understanding and imbues texts with unique spiritual and intellectual eloquence .
