Abstract

This study examines indirect speech acts in Al-Maidani’s *Majma’ al-Amthal* as a pragmatic phenomenon in which the intended meaning goes beyond the literal denotation to encompass linguistic communicative purposes inferred from context and clues. It aims to reveal the mechanisms Al-Maidani employed in using proverbs to perform indirect speech acts, and to clarify their pragmatic functions and their impact on guiding and persuading the recipient. The study adopted an analytical pragmatics approach and concluded that proverbs represent a condensed form of pragmatic discourse in which linguistic structure intertwines with communicative purposes, thereby enhancing their rhetorical and persuasive value.
