Abstract

This study explores New Historicism as a critical practice where literature and history intersect. It does so by reviewing the historical development of the historical novel and analyzing its concept through a critical approach that reads texts within their cultural and social contexts. The study also focuses on disentangling the overlap and interaction between the narrative and the historical in the construction of the novel. The selected case study is Ahmar Hana (Red Tavern) by Hameed Al-Rubaie, as it represents a prominent model in employing New Historicism and offers a rich interpretive space that re-reads history from a contemporary cultural and social perspective. The research highlights the role of New Historicism in shaping both setting and characters within the novel.
