Abstract

In Arabic poetry, the poetic purpose represents the ultimate objective that the poet seeks to achieve through his poetic discourse. The aims of poetry vary according to context and circumstance. However, some poets have sought to enrich their main purpose by introducing one or more secondary aims, or by preceding it with a preliminary theme that serves as a gateway to the central aspiration. This approach has rendered the poetic text multifaceted in its purposes. Such complexity has motivated us to explore this field in order to identify these purposes within the Andalusian poem and to examine the extent to which poets of the Taifa period were capable of producing texts that are diverse in vision yet coherent in thought and structure—without deviating from established poetic conventions. The topic of this research is of considerable significance, as it has not yet received the scholarly attention it deserves, despite the abundance of studies devoted to Andalusian poetry, which is distinguished by its captivating aesthetic beauty. This distinctive quality has encouraged us to revisit the subject and engage with its rich field, aiming to reach findings that constitute a meaningful and original contribution to the domain of literary criticism.
