Abstract

This study highlights a grammatical topic, namely grammatical criticism, as examined by Iraqi scholars who have devoted attention to this field. Grammatical criticism is a linguistic phenomenon that has received considerable attention from both classical and modern researchers in their linguistic studies, particularly grammarians. It represents a prominent feature of grammatical scholarship, serving as an approach that investigates all aspects of the grammatical tradition, beginning with the process of linguistic induction and extending to detailed partial rules. Through grammatical criticism, the grammarian seeks to identify the strengths and weaknesses of grammatical formulations and analyses by relying on grammatical evidence and the subsidiary proofs derived from it. This process involves interpretation, analysis, justification, and comparison with alternative views in order to arrive at a judgment regarding the acceptability or rejection of a particular grammatical rule or opinion. Accordingly, the value of this functional approach lies in its ability to distinguish between valid and defective grammatical rules, thereby contributing to the refinement and development of grammatical theory
