Abstract

This paper aims to identify: 1. Apparent validity among university students. 2. The statistical significance of differences in apparent validity among university students according to the gender variable (male/female). To achieve the objectives of the study, the two researchers constructed a scale to measure the concept of apparent honesty according to Blanton’s theory (Blanton, 2000). The scale consisted of 33 items. Face validity and construct validity were verified. The reliability of the scale was also established using the test–retest method, which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.85, while Cronbach’s alpha coefficient reached 0.80. The scale was administered to a statistical analysis sample consisting of 400 male and female students from University of Diyala selected through proportional stratified random sampling. The following statistical methods were used: one-sample t-test and independent-samples t-test. The study reached the following results: 1. University students possess apparent validity, as the calculated t-value was greater than the tabulated t-value, indicating statistically significant differences. 2. There are statistically significant differences in apparent validity among university students according to gender, in favor of females. In light of the findings, the researchers presented a number of recommendations and suggestions.
