Abstract

This research aims to reveal the linguistic competence of the speaker as a goal that linguistic approaches attempt to understand and identify through a grammatical-linguistic approach that links the linguistic heritage with the outputs of linguistic theories and their methods in analyzing the structure of discourse and its production mechanisms. The researcher starts from a fact established in linguistic research that sees that linguistic competence appears in the structural representations; Because it is a mirror that reflects the speaker's ability to employ their latent linguistic abilities in communicative contexts. The speaker's linguistic competence is measured by the linguistic repertoire they possess and their method of employing it when communicating in a way that serves their ideas and purposes, expresses their overall circumstances, conditions, and beliefs, and this is considered an indicator of the quality of their language system and its standing among languages; Linguistic theories have not neglected the use of speaker competence in interpreting and structuring linguistic phenomena. Competence is a fundamental principle that linguistic theories strive to uphold in their methodologies, fulfilling their inherent scientific obligations, as it is an indicator of the comprehensiveness of their view of the linguistic system. Perhaps the dominance of linguistic competence over grammatical structures and their production is what prompted me to study it, to elaborate on its concept at the level of representing and interpreting structures, as well as to observe its manifestations in our grammatical heritage. Therefore, I employed the tools of scientific research—inductive, systematic, and foundational—to uncover its concept and applications, and the extent of its compatibility with the views and opinions presented by linguistic theories
