Abstract

The Renaissance and Freedom Party had an impact in Iran during the period 1961- 1963. Iran has witnessed during that period important developments represented by the appearance of the American role in the Iranian arena, and the presenting by Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of a series of reform programs from 1960, under the guidance of the United States of America, which believed that the situation inside Iran was pushing towards a revolution or a popular explosion against the Shah. The role of the Renaissance and Freedom Party, which parted from the Second National Front, appeared to reveal the Shah's intentions of those reform programs and supported the religious establishment to oppose those programs. The religious establishment was active and the signs of its entry into the political arena in Iran appeared clearly at the beginning of 1961, and the Renaissance and Freedom Party played an important and active role in bringing ideas closer between the educated youth and the Religious Men.
