Abstract

Political geography centers its studies on a nation’s natural and human elements, considering natural disasters as critical challenges that strike at the heart of a state by disrupting one of its fundamental components—its natural resources and landscape. These disasters also have profound impacts on the human aspect through the casualties they cause among the population. The severity of such disasters is amplified by their unpredictable nature, varying intensity, and the fact that they often fall outside the scope of typical risk calculations, making them a substantial threat to a state's stability. This study aims to shed light on the human and material losses resulting from the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, examining key damages to infrastructure, housing, and the decline in economic activities resulting from these seismic events
